Homo A Go Go: Queer Music, Art, Film, Peformance and Activism Festival

Get yer U-Haul, we're moving to San Francisco... July 29-August 2, 2009

The Homo A Go Go festival features a diverse, multi-disciplinary line-up of visual art, music, film, spoken word and workshops in a unique blend of community building and cultural activism. The festival strives to feature a roster of queer artists and activists from diverse backgrounds, identities and locations.   In addition to arts programming, the festival offers a program of workshops and community discussions presented by community collaborators to highlight issues of (queer) social justice and activism.   Between 2002 and 2004 the Homo A Go Go festival also raised over $11,000 in funds for the Olympia based, Gender Variant Healthcare Project (GVHP), who work on healthcare issues for trans-people. We are currently seeking a community organization in San Francisco to benefit in 2009.

Since 2002, HAGG has provided programming to audiences of over 10,000 total people and presented the work of over 1000 LGBTQ artist.   Festival attendees have dubbed the festival, “the ultimate gaycation,” and, “a life changing experience.”   The organization gets regular emails and messages about the positive impact it has had on the lives of many attendees.   Some of our highlights include:

  • In 2006, presenting the North American premiere of Jon Cameron Mitchell's, “Shortbus,” with an appearance from the director.
  • Headlining performances (2002, 2004, 2006) from the internationally renowned band (and our dear friends), The Gossip.
  • In 2004, presenting Imani Henry's multimedia performance, B4T, on issues of being transgender, immigration and racism.
  • In 2002, presenting transgender activist, writer and artist, Kate Borstein as our keynote speaker.
  • In 2004, presenting two icons of LGBTQ music: The Indigo Girls and Team Dresch.
  • Presentation and screening by Queer film icon, Bruce La Bruce in 2002
